Around the world, children are standing up and talking about their lives, their hopes, and their rights.
From the moment the sun rises, children wake up to a world shaped by choices they didn't make. But every child, everywhere, also wakes with rights. Including the right to be protected, to learn, and to have their voice heard.
It’s time to listen to children. To understand what their lives are like and how their rights are present, missing, or pursued every day.
World Children’s Day is being celebrated across Sri Lanka today (01) under the theme “Strong in Mind Rich in Heart.”
The Ministry of Women and Child Affairs declared a National Children’s Day Week from September 25, with a series of programmes organised for children.
The final programme of the week is scheduled to be held this morning at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura under the patronage of Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya.
Minister of Women and Child Affairs Savithri Paulraj urged parents to remain committed to protecting children and securing a better future for them.
As part of the celebrations, children below 12 years of age will receive free admission today to the Dehiwala National Zoo and the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage.
The Dehiwala Zoo has also organised special programmes for children to mark World Children’s Day.
