A businessman who was allegedly abducted by a group of unidentified men in the Walana area of Panadura was later found abandoned near the Minuwanpitiya cemetery, police said.

The incident reportedly took place at around 10:00 p.m. on September 29, as the businessman was travelling home along Mahanama Road with his wife and two daughters.

According to police, a group travelling in another vehicle pursued the businessman’s car before intercepting it. The assailants allegedly smashed the windows of the vehicle and forcibly took the businessman away.

His two daughters managed to escape the incident unharmed. However, his wife sustained injuries during the confrontation and was admitted to the Panadura Base Hospital for treatment.

The businessman was also subsequently admitted to the same hospital after being released by the abductors.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the abduction may have been linked to a financial dispute, police said. The businessman’s vehicle sustained extensive damage during the attack.

Officers from the Panadura Division Crime Scene Unit are conducting further investigations and efforts are underway to identify and arrest those responsible for the alleged abduction.
