Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath has called for de-escalation and the peaceful settlement of disputes through dialogue and diplomacy during a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Dr. Seyed Abbas Araghchi on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Herath said the two sides exchanged views on current regional and international developments during the meeting.

He reiterated Sri Lanka’s call for de-escalation and urged the peaceful resolution of disputes through dialogue and diplomatic engagement.

The Foreign Minister also encouraged the continuation of negotiations aimed at restoring regional stability at the earliest opportunity.

The meeting took place during the High-Level Week of the 81st Session of the UN General Assembly.
