Veteran music industry figure and founder of ‘Singlanka’, Ananda Ganegoda, has passed away.
Ganegoda was widely recognised for his significant contribution to the revival and development of Sinhala classical and quality music, commonly known as Subhavitha Geetha, in Sri Lanka.
Working closely with local musicians and music creators, he established ‘Singlanka’, a cassette production company aimed at promoting creative independence, artistic quality and the economic well-being of artists involved in music production.
In 1980, Ganegoda pioneered Sri Lanka’s cassette music industry by releasing 25 cassette tapes simultaneously, featuring leading vocalists including Nanda Malini and W. D. Amaradeva.
Over the course of his career, more than 2,000 songs were released under his direction, making a lasting contribution to Sri Lanka’s musical heritage.
Following the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC), ‘Singlanka’ gained significant recognition as a music production label known for releasing high-quality artistic works while catering to the musical tastes of the public.
Ganegoda also served as the Chairman of a leading business network in Sri Lanka.
His remains are currently lying at his private residence at No. 179/2, Templers Road, Mount Lavinia.
