An Italian female tourist has died after falling from a waterfall while reportedly attempting to take photographs in the Kithalella area of Ella.
The woman was visiting the waterfall with a female friend when she reportedly lost her footing and fell down the steep drop while trying to take photographs of the scenic location.
Emergency services were alerted following the incident, and the injured tourist was rushed to Demodara Regional Hospital in a Suwa Seriya ambulance. However, hospital authorities informed the Ella Police that she had succumbed to her injuries by the time she was admitted.
The deceased had reportedly been staying at a tourist accommodation in the Athulgashinna area of Kithalella since September 22.
Ella Police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatal accident.
