One spill gate of the Upper Kotmale Reservoir was opened today (24) due to heavy rainfall in the reservoir’s catchment areas since early morning, reservoir engineers said.
They warned that the remaining spill gates could open automatically if heavy rain continues in the Upper Kotmale catchment areas.
The Disaster Management Unit has urged residents living on both sides of the Kotmale Oya downstream of the reservoir dam to remain vigilant.
