The Department of Prisons has launched an investigation into how organised crime suspects Nadun Chinthaka Wickramaratne, alias “Harak Kata,” and Mandinu Padmasiri Perera, alias “Kehelbaddara Padme,” came into contact before a clash between the two at Welisara Prison.

Prisons Department Media Spokesman Senaka Pallathan said the investigation will examine how the circumstances arose for the two inmates to meet. Police and prison authorities are also conducting separate investigations into the incident.

The clash took place on the afternoon of September 22. Kehelbaddara Padme sustained minor injuries and was taken to the Welisara Navy Hospital for treatment.

He was later discharged and returned to the ward at Welisara Prison where he had been held, according to the Prisons Department.

The investigations are continuing to determine the circumstances surrounding the clash and how the two inmates were able to come into contact.
