Sri Lanka Customs will officially launch its first paperless customs declaration system on October 1, 2026, marking a significant step in the digital transformation of customs procedures.
The new system will allow customs declarations and supporting documents to be submitted and processed electronically, reducing reliance on physical paperwork, manual handling and the movement of paper files.
According to Sri Lanka Customs, the initiative is expected to speed up processing, improve transparency and document traceability, and reduce administrative delays.
The system will also support more effective risk-based customs controls, revenue protection, regulatory compliance and trade facilitation, while contributing to a more environmentally sustainable working environment.
The launch, scheduled to take place at the Sri Lanka Customs Auditorium in Colombo, is expected to further the department’s efforts to establish a more efficient, transparent, secure and technology-driven customs administration.
