Amber advisory issued for strong winds, rough seas

The Department of Meteorology has issued an Amber advisory for strong winds and rough seas in several sea areas around Sri Lanka.

According to the advisory, sea areas extending from Trincomalee to Negombo via Kankesanturai and Mannar, and from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota, may be rough or very rough at times.

Strong gusty winds of 55–65 kmph are expected in these areas.

Meanwhile, wave heights may increase to around 2.0–2.5 metres in sea areas extending from Puttalam to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle and Matara, the Meteorology Department said
