Parliament is scheduled to convene at 9.30 a.m. today (22), with the parliamentary business listed under Standing Orders 22(1) to 22(6) scheduled from 9.30 a.m. to 10.00 a.m.
The period from 10.00 a.m. to 11.00 a.m. will be allocated for questions requiring oral answers, while questions under Standing Order 27(2) will be taken up from 11.00 a.m. to 11.30 a.m.
Parliamentary Secretary General Kushani Rohanadeera said changes had been made to the parliamentary business scheduled for today (22) and tomorrow (23).
The changes were decided at a meeting of the Committee on Parliamentary Business held yesterday (21) under the chairmanship of Deputy Speaker Dr. Rizvie Salih.
Accordingly, the second reading debate on the Export Agriculture Promotion (Amendment) Bill, which was scheduled for today from 11.30 a.m. to 5.00 p.m., will instead be held tomorrow (23) during the same time period.
Meanwhile, the second reading debate on the Sri Lanka Institute of Chartered Media Professionals Bill, scheduled for tomorrow, will not be presented, the Secretary General said.
Parliament is also scheduled to approve tomorrow a Supplementary Estimate seeking Rs. 17.213 billion in financial assistance to provide relief to the public in relation to electricity bills.
The Supplementary Estimate is scheduled to be presented to Parliament today.
The required funds will be transferred from allocations made to line ministries for 2026 that have been identified as unlikely to be utilized by the end of the year.
The transfer will not affect the overall expenditure ceiling approved under the Appropriation Act No. 23 of 2025 or the Government’s maximum borrowing limit.
The Secretary General further said there would be no changes to the parliamentary business scheduled for September 24 and 25.
