Twenty Sri Lankan nationals who had been detained and remanded in Kuwait for staying in the country illegally without valid visas were deported and arrived at Bandaranaike International Airport early today (20).
The group had travelled to Kuwait for various jobs, including domestic work, but had allegedly left their contracted workplaces and taken up employment elsewhere illegally.
They were deported on Jazeera Airways flight J9-551 from Kuwait City, which arrived at Katunayake at around 3:10 a.m. today.
The Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) provided the returnees with transportation and financial assistance to enable them to travel to their respective hometowns.
