The Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre has issued an advisory warning of strong winds and rough seas in deep-sea areas of the Bay of Bengal for multi-day fishing vessels.

According to the advisory, an atmospheric disturbance north of the Andaman Islands is likely to develop into a low-pressure area within the next 24 hours.

As a result, wind speeds in the Bay of Bengal are expected to increase from tomorrow (19), with winds in the affected sea areas reaching 55–65 kmph at times.

The sea conditions in these areas are expected to become rough to very rough at times.

Naval and fishing communities operating in the affected areas have been advised to remain vigilant and closely monitor future weather forecasts and advisories issued by the Department of Meteorology.
