Sri Lanka Army Commando troops conducted a special operation on 16 September 2026 to recover the body of a 27-year-old youth who had fallen into a precipice at the Ududumbara ‘Punchi Lokantha’ viewpoint (Mini World’s End).
After receiving information about the incident from the Central Province Office of the Disaster Management Centre, a 17-member team of the Commando Regiment departed from Nuwara Eliya at around 6.00 a.m. and proceeded to the area.
The body, which had fallen into a precipice approximately 355 metres deep, was safely recovered at around 12.30 p.m. using specialised operational techniques amid the difficult mountainous terrain.
The body was subsequently handed over to the Ududumbara Police for further legal proceedings.
The deceased was reportedly a youth from the Lunukadiyamadiththa area in Manikhinna.
