The Financial Investigation Unit of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has arrested a suspect in connection with a large-scale land fraud involving a forged property deed in Barnes Place, Colombo 07.
The suspect, a 73-year-old resident of Kalutara, was taken into custody today (16) in Kalutara town following an extensive investigation initiated upon a complaint lodged with the CID.
According to the police, the suspect had allegedly fabricated a counterfeit deed for the prime real estate, submitted the forged documentation in court proceedings, and fraudulently sold the property to obtain nearly Rs. 10 million.
The Financial Investigation Unit of the CID is conducting further investigations into the matter.
