China has offered to support Sri Lanka's efforts to digitalize its judicial framework and integrate artificial intelligence (AI) technology.
This commitment was discussed during a meeting between the Minister of Justice and National Integration, Attorney-at-Law Harshana Nanayakkara, and the newly appointed Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Wei Huaxiang, at the Ministry of Justice.
During the discussion, Minister Nanayakkara briefed the Ambassador on key legal and judicial reforms initiated by the government. The Minister highlighted measures to curb corruption, the implementation of the e-court project, the introduction of voice-to-text technology into judicial proceedings, infrastructure development for courts, efforts to ease prison congestion, and protocols for managing court evidence and property.
Ambassador Wei Huaxiang expressed China's willingness to assist Sri Lanka by sharing expertise from its own judicial system, where digitalization and AI technologies have been successfully deployed. He noted that China's courts effectively utilize voice-to-text integration and maintain interconnected systems to streamline information sharing.
Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and mutual understanding while continuing China's assistance toward Sri Lanka's ongoing development initiatives.
