The Attanagalu Oya and Kalu Ganga rivers have reached their highest water levels at key monitoring points, including Millakanda and Elagawa, according to Director of Irrigation L. S. Suriyabandara.
The Irrigation Department warned that if significant rainfall continues throughout the day, minor flooding could occur in the lower reaches of these rivers, potentially affecting nearby communities.
Residents in low-lying areas have been urged to remain vigilant, as continued rainfall could cause water levels to rise further.
Meanwhile, the Kelani River has shown a gradual increase in water levels, although there is currently no immediate risk of flooding.
Higher-than-normal water levels have also been observed in the lower reaches of the Nilwala, Gin and Bentara rivers.
The Department of Irrigation said it is closely monitoring the situation and will issue further updates as weather conditions develop.
