Due to a low-level atmospheric disturbance in the vicinity of Sri Lanka, cloudy skies are expected over the Western, Central, Sabaragamuwa, Southern and Uva provinces, with showers or thundershowers occurring at times

 Sowers or thundershowers will occur at several places in other parts of the Island after 1.00 p.m.

Heavy falls above 100 mm are likely at some places in Western, Central, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, North-central and North-western provinces.

The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

WEATHER FORECAST FOR SEA AREAS AROUND THE ISLAND DURING NEXT 24 HOURS

Condition of Rain:

Showers or thundershowers may occur at several places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Kankasanthurai to Hambantota via Puttalam, Colombo and Galle.  Showers or thundershowers may occur at few places in the other sea areas  during the evening or night.

Winds:

Winds will be South-westerly. Wind speed will be (30-40) kmph. 

Wind speed can increase up to 50 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Hambantota to Pottuvil.

 

State of Sea:

The wave height may increase about (2.0 – 3.0) meters in the sea areas off the coast extending from Chilaw to Pottuvil via Galle, Matara and Hambantota. Sea condition may be rough in these sea areas.

The naval and fishing communities who are engaged in fishing and naval activities in the above sea areas are requested to be vigilant in this regard.
