The Ministry of Environment says more than 78,000 people engaged in fishing, agriculture, plantation and several other sectors have lost their livelihoods due to the prevailing El Niño weather conditions.
The ministry said the number of people affected by the adverse weather conditions has exceeded 160,000.
Meanwhile, the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) said drinking water is currently being distributed to around 141,000 people affected by the situation.
