Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa, who is currently in remand custody, says the challenges he is facing will make him stronger rather than break him.
In a message to SLPP supporters, Rajapaksa said he was drawing strength from the support shown to him while he remains at the Colombo Remand Prison. He said he could see the enthusiastic support of his supporters “from the iron bars” of the prison and described their solidarity as a great source of inspiration.
Quoting former South African President Nelson Mandela, Rajapaksa said difficult circumstances can break some people but can make others stronger. He said he belonged to a group of people who become stronger when faced with challenges.
Rajapaksa also credited his father with teaching him the importance of becoming stronger in the face of adversity. He said the difficulties he is experiencing would strengthen his resolve rather than weaken it.
He further said he considers it a privilege to lead a political movement alongside people who are willing to stand together and face difficulties. His message comes as supporters continue to express solidarity with the SLPP parliamentarian during his period in remand custody.
