Several spells of showers are expected in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, as well as in the Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Galle and Matara districts, according to the latest weather forecast.

Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the Uva and Eastern provinces and in the Mullaittivu district after 2.00 p.m.

The public has been advised to take adequate precautions to minimize possible damage from temporarily strong localized winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Meanwhile, showers may occur at a few places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Matara via Colombo and Galle.

Southwesterly winds are expected to prevail over the sea areas around the island at speeds of 30–40 kmph. Wind speeds may temporarily increase to 50–60 kmph in the sea areas off the coast from Hambantota to Pottuvil.

Wind speeds may also increase up to 50 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Chilaw to Kankasanthurai via Mannar.

The sea areas off the coast from Hambantota to Pottuvil are expected to be rough at times, while the sea areas from Chilaw to Kankasanthurai via Mannar may be fairly rough.

Wave heights could increase to around 2.0–2.5 metres in the sea areas extending from Chilaw to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle, Matara and Hambantota.
