Two Thai nationals have been arrested by officers of the Customs Narcotics Control Unit at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) today (08) for allegedly smuggling “Kush” and “Hashish” worth approximately Rs. 51.37 million into Sri Lanka.
The suspects, aged 23 and 39, are both Thai nationals employed as meat cutters at a meat shop in Thailand.
They arrived at BIA at around midnight today on Thai Airways flight TG-307 from Bangkok.
Customs officers discovered approximately 4.496 kg of “Kush” concealed inside 16 vitamin containers packed in two pieces of luggage. A further 641 grams of “Hashish” had allegedly been prepared to resemble blackcurrant paste and wrapped in polythene.
The two suspects and the seized narcotics have been handed over to the Police Narcotics Bureau at BIA for further investigations.
