Showers or thundershowers are expected at several places in the Uva, Central and Eastern provinces and Polonnaruwa District after 2.00 p.m. today.

Fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 75 mm is likely in some areas of the Uva and Eastern provinces, while several spells of showers are expected in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Galle and Matara districts.

The public has been advised to take adequate precautions against temporary strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Meanwhile, showers may occur at a few places in the sea areas off the coast from Puttalam to Matara via Colombo and Galle.

Showers or thundershowers may also occur in several sea areas from Trincomalee to Pottuvil via Batticaloa during the evening or night.

Southwesterly winds are expected, with speeds of 30–40 kmph. Wind speeds may occasionally increase to 50–60 kmph in the sea areas from Hambantota to Pottuvil and from Kankesanthurai to Puttalam via Mannar.

The sea areas from Hambantota to Pottuvil and from Kankesanthurai to Puttalam via Mannar may be rough at times. Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.
