A 46-year-old man known as “Bhootha Kaluwa,” the brother-in-law of organized crime figure “Kos Malli,” was hacked to death at his residence in Dehiwala early today (7), police said.

The attack took place at around 1:45 a.m. at the victim’s home on Aubin Place, Dehiwala. Police said the victim had previously lived in Dubai for several years with Kos Malli.

He had reportedly returned to Sri Lanka a few weeks ago after suffering a stroke and was undergoing treatment.

According to the police, four individuals who arrived in a three-wheeler forcibly entered the house and attacked the victim with sharp weapons while he was sleeping. The assailants then fled the scene.

The critically injured man was rushed to the Kalubowila Teaching Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Police suspect that the killing may have been carried out by a faction linked to rival organized crime figure “Badowita Asanka.”

Several police teams have been deployed to identify and arrest the suspects. Dehiwala Police are conducting further investigations into the murder.
