SriLankan Airlines has cancelled today’s scheduled flights between Colombo and Jakarta due to volcanic ash from Indonesia’s Mount Anak Krakatoa.
The airline cancelled flight UL 364 (Colombo–Jakarta) and UL 365 (Jakarta–Colombo) as volcanic ash and silica-laden rock fragments spread across the affected airspace.
Indonesian aviation authorities have suspended operations at several airports, including Jakarta’s Soekarno–Hatta International Airport, citing risks to aircraft engines and control systems.
Authorities have also prohibited flights through the western air corridor towards Sri Lanka.
The disruption follows diversions last night, when two SriLankan Airlines flights from Sydney and Melbourne were rerouted to avoid the affected airspace.
Several Middle Eastern carriers operating between Australia and Indonesia have also altered their flight routes.
The volcanic activity has resulted in temporary closures at multiple Indonesian airports and widespread disruption to international air travel across the region.
