Police opened fire at a three-wheeler after its occupants failed to comply with instructions to stop near Veluwana Road in Dematagoda today (3).
According to the Police, the three-wheeler had been driven in a reckless manner from Kompannavidiya, prompting officers to order the vehicle to stop.
The vehicle reportedly continued despite the police orders, following which officers opened fire at it.
No one was injured in the shooting, Police said.
Five suspects travelling in the three-wheeler were subsequently arrested, while three swords were also recovered from the vehicle.
The suspects have been identified as residents of Kollonnawa, and further investigations are underway.
