Sri Lanka welcomed 191,704 international tourists in August 2026, with India continuing to lead the country’s tourism market, according to the latest figures released by the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA).
India accounted for 47,253 arrivals, representing around 25% of the total number of tourists who visited Sri Lanka during the month.
The United Kingdom was the second-largest source market with 19,588 arrivals, followed by China with 12,321 visitors.
Germany and France rounded out the top five markets, recording 11,405 and 10,885 arrivals respectively.
With the August figures, Sri Lanka’s cumulative tourist arrivals during the first eight months of 2026 reached 1,535,122.
India remained the leading source market during the January-August period, contributing 385,483 arrivals, while the UK recorded 149,989.
China accounted for 100,828 arrivals, followed by Germany with 90,001 and the Russian Federation with 80,845.
