An open verdict has been recorded following the post-mortem examination conducted in connection with the suspicious death of well-known model Chula Padmendra.
Police said the post-mortem examination found no external or internal injuries on her body. Samples taken from the remains have been sent to the Government Analyst for further examination as part of the ongoing investigation.
The 45-year-old model was found dead on a bed at a house belonging to a businessman in the Thumbowila area of Piliyandala on August 31.
Police investigations have revealed that Padmendra had been in a romantic relationship with the businessman. She had reportedly travelled to his residence in Piliyandala in the early hours of August 31, following an event she had organised in Battaramulla on August 30.
She subsequently went to sleep in a room at the residence. At around 12.45 p.m. that day, attempts were made to wake her, but she did not respond. The 1990 Suwa Seriya ambulance service was then called.
Health workers who arrived at the scene examined her and confirmed that she had died.
Meanwhile, the businessman had lodged a complaint with the Piliyandala Police after noticing a bloodstain on the bedsheet on which she had been sleeping. The deceased model's mother had also lodged a separate complaint with the police.
Accordingly, police said two complaints have been received in connection with the death.
After the matter was reported to the Kesbewa Magistrate's Court, Acting Magistrate Sunethra Perera inspected the scene and the body.
The post-mortem examination was conducted at the Kalubowila Teaching Hospital by Judicial Medical Officer Dr. B.C.M. Rodrigo on the orders of the court.
Further investigations are being conducted under the direction of Piliyandala Police OIC Chief Inspector Chaminda Kulasinghe.
