Sri Lanka’s national carrier, SriLankan Airlines, is celebrating its 47th anniversary today (September 1).

The airline began operations on September 1, 1979, under the name Air Lanka, with two Boeing 707 aircraft.

Over the past 47 years, SriLankan Airlines has grown into a leading regional carrier in the international aviation industry, while promoting Sri Lankan identity and hospitality around the world.

The airline has also built a strong reputation for prioritising passenger safety and reliability, further strengthening Sri Lanka’s presence in the global aviation sector.
