Police say nearly 463 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine (Ice) have been discovered inside two containers at the Colombo Port.

The drugs are estimated to be worth more than Rs. 8 billion.

The raid was carried out jointly by the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) and the Central Crime Investigation Bureau (CCIB), based on information received by the Senior Deputy Inspector General in charge of the Criminal and Traffic Division.

Police inspected two suspicious containers and, with the assistance of Sri Lanka Customs, opened them and began weighing the suspected narcotics.

Deputy Inspector General of Police Ashoka Dharmasena said the quantity weighed so far is estimated at approximately 463 kilograms.

Further investigations are underway to determine who brought the consignment of drugs into Sri Lanka, he added.
