The Supreme Court is scheduled to begin hearing tomorrow (September 1) a series of petitions challenging the constitutionality of the proposed 22nd Amendment to the Constitution, recently presented to Parliament by the Government.
The petitions have been filed by several parties seeking to challenge the proposed constitutional amendment.
The cases are expected to be heard by a five-member bench headed by Chief Justice Preethi Padman Surasena.
The other members of the bench are Supreme Court Justices Achala Wengappuli, Arjuna Obeysekera, Sampath Abeykoon and Gihan Kulatunga.
The hearings are expected to determine whether the proposed amendment contains provisions that are inconsistent with the Constitution.
