Former Minister and MP Ravi Karunanayake arrived at the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) on Monday (August 31) to provide a statement in connection with an ongoing investigation.
The investigation concerns allegations involving employees recruited for a special project of the National Lotteries Board (NLB) who were allegedly deployed for political or personal duties, resulting in a financial loss to the Government.
Karunanayake’s appearance follows a visit by CIABOC officials to his residence on Parliament Road on August 29, after he had failed to appear before the commission on a scheduled date. Officials left after finding that he was not in Colombo.
However, Karunanayake’s media team said he had not deliberately avoided appearing before CIABOC. They stated that although he had been notified to appear, he was unable to attend on the specified date, and his lawyers had subsequently requested another date for him to appear.
Karunanayake has now arrived at CIABOC to provide his statement as part of the ongoing investigation.
