Parliamentarian Ravi Karunanayake is scheduled to appear before the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) today (31) to provide a statement regarding an ongoing investigation.
The investigation concerns allegations that three employees recruited for a special project of the National Lotteries Board were allegedly deployed for political activities, causing financial losses to the government.
CIABOC had previously informed Karunanayake to appear before the Commission to provide a statement in connection with the investigation. However, after he failed to appear, a team of CIABOC officials visited his residence the day before yesterday.
The officials were reportedly informed that Karunanayake was not at home at the time. His lawyers had subsequently requested that he be given another date to appear before the Commission, citing commitments related to his daughter’s wedding.
According to his lawyers, Karunanayake is scheduled to appear before CIABOC today and provide a statement regarding the allegations under investigation.
