The management of the Sevanagala Sugar Factory has decided to temporarily suspend production operations from today (29) until further notice.
According to a notice issued by the management, the factory’s normal operations and production activities have been severely disrupted since August 25, following the withdrawal of a group of employees from their duties and their failure to commence production work.
The management said the disruption has also had an adverse impact on the financial position of the institution.
However, essential services at the factory will continue to operate during the temporary closure.
The vacuum pans, crystallizers, centrifuges, weighing stations and sugarcane yard, water supply and plumbing, electrical services, power plant, pumping stations, security, fire-fighting and cultivation divisions have been designated as essential services.
All other administrative and service divisions will remain temporarily closed indefinitely, with no specific date set for their reopening, the management said.
