A complaint has been filed before the Court of Appeal against six individuals, including former ministers Wimal Weerawansa and Udaya Gammanpila and Parliamentarian Dilith Jayaweera, over alleged contempt of court.
The complaint was filed by Fort Magistrate Pasan Amarasekara in connection with statements allegedly made during a Satyagraha held outside the Fort Railway Station regarding the detention and questioning of former State Intelligence Service (SIS) Director Suresh Sallay under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA).
The other individuals named in the complaint are former Presidential Private Secretary Sugishwara Bandara, Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna politician Asanka Navaratne, and Senior Lecturer Mahinda Pathirana.
The Fort Magistrate has informed the Court of Appeal that, prima facie, the statements made by the six individuals appear to amount to contempt of court.
The Magistrate has requested that legal action be taken against the individuals over the alleged statements.
Meanwhile, a resident of Vavuniya today made a confidential statement before the Fort Magistrate in connection with investigations into the Easter Sunday attacks.
The statement was recorded following investigations conducted by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) after a notebook containing intelligence information relating to the Vavunathivu camp was taken into custody.
The individual provided the statement for nearly one hour before the Fort Magistrate.
