The 26th National Exporters’ Forum, organized by the Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB), was successfully held yesterday (19) at the NDB-EDB Tower premises in Colombo.
The event was attended by Minister of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development Sunil Handunnetti, Minister of Fisheries, Aquatic and Ocean Resources Ramalingam Chandrasekar, and Deputy Minister of Digital Economy Engineer Eranga Weeraratne.
Addressing the forum, Minister Handunnetti said Sri Lanka’s domestic export community is the key driving force behind efforts to stabilize the economy and accelerate economic growth.
He emphasized that identifying the practical obstacles, bureaucratic delays and other challenges faced by exporters, and providing policy and technological solutions through swift government intervention, is among the government’s key responsibilities.
The minister also proposed establishing a dedicated digital portal to strengthen transparency and efficiency in communication between exporters and the government. The proposed platform would enable exporters to directly submit their concerns and monitor the progress of solutions provided by relevant authorities.
Minister Handunnetti further said the government intends to continue convening forums of this nature to ensure that issues identified through discussions with exporters are addressed promptly.
Meanwhile, the government officially announced that Sri Lanka Expo 2027, the country’s largest international exhibition dedicated to the export sector, will be held from January 14 to 17, 2027.
“The sole objective is to create a strong foundation necessary for Sri Lankan entrepreneurship to conquer global markets,” Minister Handunnetti said, underscoring the government’s commitment to strengthening the country’s export sector and expanding opportunities for Sri Lankan businesses internationally.
