Showers will occur at times in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle and Matara districts, according to the latest weather forecast.

Several spells of showers are expected in the North-Western Province, while showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the Uva Province and in Ampara and Batticaloa districts after 2.00 p.m.

Mainly dry weather is expected to prevail in other parts of the island.

Fairly strong winds of around 30–40 kmph may occur at times over the western slopes of the Central Hills, as well as the Northern, North-Central, North-Western and Southern provinces and in Trincomalee and Matale districts.

The public has been advised to take adequate precautions to minimize damage from temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Rough seas and strong winds expected

Showers may occur at a few places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Chilaw to Matara via Colombo and Galle.

Winds will be westerly to south-westerly at speeds of 30–40 kmph, while speeds may increase to 50–60 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast from Kankasanthurai to Chilaw via Mannar and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota.

These sea areas may be rough at times, with wave heights expected to reach around 2.5–3.0 metres in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Pottuvil via Galle and Matara.

Nearshore sea areas from Beruwala to Matara via Galle may experience surges due to swell waves.

Naval and fishing communities operating in the affected sea areas, along with coastal communities in the relevant nearshore areas, have been advised to remain vigilant.
