Deshani Gunaratne, the 55-year-old wife of former Cabinet Minister and Monaragala District Member of Parliament Jagath Pushpakumara, has died following an accidental fall from the second floor of a newly constructed building owned by the family.
Mrs Gunaratne, a mother of two, reportedly fell from the second floor of the building, sustaining serious injuries. She was admitted to the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital for treatment but succumbed to her injuries on Wednesday (19) morning.
Her remains are expected to be taken to the family residence in Tanamalwila.
Further details regarding the circumstances surrounding the accident are expected to emerge as investigations continue.
