The Department of Meteorology has issued a warm weather advisory for residents in the Eastern and North Central provinces, as well as the districts of Jaffna, Kilinochchi, Vavuniya, Mullaitivu and Monaragala.

According to the Department, the heat index the temperature felt by the human body based on air temperature and relative humidity is expected to rise to the ‘Caution’ level in some areas during the daytime tomorrow (20).

The Department warned that prolonged exposure to direct sunlight and engaging in outdoor activities could cause fatigue. Continued physical activity under such conditions may lead to heat cramps.

The public, particularly those engaged in outdoor work and activities, is advised to take precautions against the effects of excessive heat and avoid prolonged exposure to the sun during the hottest parts of the day.

The Heat Index Forecast is calculated using relative humidity and maximum temperature to indicate the level of heat stress that may be experienced by the human body.
