Kankanamlage Dimuthu Chaturanga Perera, alias “Summitpura Chatu” and “Modara Chatu,” an alleged organised crime figure wanted by Sri Lankan authorities, was brought back to Sri Lanka from Oman in the early hours of Tuesday (18) and handed over to the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD).

Chaturanga was arrested by police in Oman following an Interpol Red Notice issued in connection with his alleged criminal activities.

A resident of Summitpura, Modara (Mattakkuliya), he reportedly fled Sri Lanka for Oman on March 22, 2025, allegedly using a forged passport.

Sri Lankan law enforcement authorities have identified him as a key suspect in several serious criminal investigations, including the assassination of underworld figure Ganemulla Sanjeewa.

Following his deportation from Muscat, Chaturanga arrived at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake, where he was taken into custody and transported to the CCD under tight security.

He is now being questioned by CCD investigators as authorities conduct further investigations into his alleged involvement in organised criminal activities and other high-profile offences.
