Sri Lanka’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has launched an investigation into claims that a suspected LTTE-linked camp is being constructed in a jungle area in Palai.
The investigation follows a statement by Sangeeth Jayasekara, Executive Director of the Inter-Continental Human Rights Commission, who alleged that a three-storey building was being constructed at the site and could potentially be used as a bomb-manufacturing facility.
Authorities have treated the allegations seriously and have launched inquiries to establish the facts surrounding the site.
Following the allegations, police and the Special Task Force (STF) were deployed to inspect the location. They reportedly confirmed that an unauthorized construction was taking place at the site.
The location is also reportedly the subject of several legal disputes concerning unauthorized development on state-owned land.
The CID has now been tasked with conducting a comprehensive criminal investigation to determine whether the site has any links to the LTTE or any other organized group.
Jayasekara has been summoned to the CID to provide further information and evidence regarding the allegations.
