The defence evidence hearing in the special three-judge High Court trial related to the Easter Sunday bomb attacks began today (17) and is scheduled to continue daily.

The accused were called upon to make their statements in defence on August 13. During the proceedings, the court also explained to the accused all constitutional rights available to them.

According to the case record, some of the accused have decided to make statements from the dock, while additional witnesses are also scheduled to be called on their behalf.

Another group of accused has also indicated that they are prepared to make statements from the dock. However, their lawyers have informed the court that no other witnesses will be called on their behalf.

The defence evidence is expected to continue as the court considers the charges brought against the accused in connection with the Easter Sunday attacks.
