The Department of Meteorology has warned of hot weather conditions in several districts across Sri Lanka on Monday (17), with residents urged to take precautions against the effects of excessive heat.
The Natural Disaster Early Warning Centre issued the advisory at 4.00 p.m. on Sunday (16), and it will remain valid for Monday.
According to the advisory, attention should be given to Vavuniya, Mullaitivu, Trincomalee, Polonnaruwa, Batticaloa, Ampara, and Monaragala districts.
The Department said the Heat Index the level of heat actually felt by the human body could reach “Caution” levels in some areas of these districts during the daytime.
Authorities have urged the public to take necessary precautions to minimize the potential health impacts of the hot weather.
Residents in the affected areas are advised to drink sufficient water and rest in shaded or cool locations whenever possible. Special attention should be given to elderly and sick individuals, while parents and caregivers have been warned not to leave young children unattended inside vehicles.
The public has also been advised to limit strenuous activities during the hottest periods of the day and to wear light-coloured, lightweight clothing to reduce the impact of the heat.
