The Meteorological Department has forecast showers at times in Sabaragamuwa Province and in the Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle and Matara districts.
Several spells of showers may occur in the Western and North-Western provinces, while showers or thundershowers are possible at a few places in Uva Province and in the Ampara and Batticaloa districts after 2.00 p.m.
Fairly strong winds of around 30–40 kmph are expected at times over the North-Central, North-Western, Central and Southern provinces, as well as in Trincomalee District.
The public has been advised to take adequate precautions to minimize possible damage from temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Rough Seas Expected in Several Areas
For the next 24 hours, showers are expected at several places in the sea areas extending from Chilaw to Matara via Colombo and Galle.
Winds around the island are expected to be westerly to south-westerly at speeds of 30–40 kmph. Wind speeds may increase to 50–60 kmph at times in the sea areas extending from Kankasanthurai to Chilaw via Mannar and Puttalam, and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota.
The sea in these areas is expected to be rough at times, while other sea areas around the island may become fairly rough.
Wave heights may increase to around 2.0–2.5 metres in the sea areas extending from Negombo to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle and Hambantota.
Naval and fishing communities engaged in activities in the affected sea areas have been urged to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions.
