Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya has emphasized that vocational education should be an integral part of the Government’s broader education reform agenda, providing pathways not only to employment but also to higher education, career advancement and lifelong learning.
She made the remarks while participating in an event marking the completion and handover to the Government of the GIZ Vocational Training in Sri Lanka (VTSL II) project.
The Prime Minister stressed the importance of creating opportunities for women, persons with disabilities and marginalized communities through skills development.
She also highlighted the need to strengthen partnerships among the Government, vocational training institutions and the private sector to further develop Sri Lanka’s skills and vocational education sector.
The VTSL II project was implemented with the support of the German Government, in cooperation with the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation.
