A total of 1,693 people have been killed in 1,605 road accidents reported so far this year, according to the Police.

Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the Traffic Control and Road Safety Division, W. P. J. Senadheera, made the remarks at a press conference held in Colombo today (13).

He said a slight decline in the number of road accidents has been recorded compared to the same period last year.

However, the DIG noted that accidents involving motorcycles have increased during the period.
