Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya says the Government’s ongoing education reforms place special emphasis on vocational education, with the sector tasked with developing the skilled workforce required for Sri Lanka’s future development.
Speaking at a ceremony held at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH) on August 12 to mark the issuance of one million National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) certificates through the country’s tertiary and vocational education system, the Prime Minister said the reforms aim to enable students to begin vocational education while still at school.
She said the Government plans to establish pathways allowing students to pursue vocational education and training up to higher levels in line with their aspirations and future goals.
Prime Minister Amarasuriya also highlighted the important role of vocational education in meeting Sri Lanka’s workforce requirements in line with national development priorities.
