Three underworld suspects to be brought from Malaysia

Three individuals suspected of involvement in organized criminal activities, including “Ratmalana Saima,” a close associate of alleged underworld figure Kanjipani Imran, are due to be brought back to Sri Lanka today following their arrest in Malaysia.

Three individuals suspected of involvement in organized criminal activities, including “Ratmalana Saima,” a close associate of alleged underworld figure Kanjipani Imran, are due to be brought back to Sri Lanka today following their arrest in Malaysia.

The arrests were made during a special operation conducted with the assistance of Interpol and the Malaysian Police, together with a Sri Lankan police team led by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Rohan Olugala, Director of the Walana Anti-Corruption Force, and ASP Vasantha Pitiyakumbura of the Legal Division. The suspects are expected to be handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) upon their arrival in Sri Lanka.

Investigators allege that “Ratmalana Saima” played a key role in a drug trafficking network and other organized criminal activities linked to Kanjipani Imran. He is also alleged to have accumulated substantial wealth through the narcotics trade and to have owned several businesses, including a five-storey luxury hotel in Thailand.

Authorities believe Saima’s arrest has disrupted criminal and drug-related operations allegedly linked to Imran in Malaysia. The operation reportedly began several weeks ago when ASP Rohan Olugala and ASP Vasantha Pitiyakumbura travelled to Malaysia to assist in locating the suspects.

With the support of the Sri Lankan Embassy in Malaysia, Malaysian law enforcement authorities and Interpol, investigators tracked down and arrested Saima, who was identified as one of Imran’s closest associates. Further investigations are expected to be conducted by the CID after the suspects are handed over to Sri Lankan authorities.
