Heavy rainfall in Sri Lanka's central hills has triggered a landslide, blocking the Nallathanniya–Sri Pada access road at the Ehela Kanuwa area.

According to the Disaster Management Centre (DMC), a section of the slope near Ehela Kanuwa collapsed onto the roadway due to the prevailing rainy weather, causing a temporary obstruction to traffic.

Authorities said a team has been deployed to the site to clear the debris and restore access to the road as quickly as possible.

Motorists and pilgrims travelling to Sri Pada via the Nallathanniya route have been advised to exercise caution and follow instructions from officials until the affected stretch is fully cleared.

The DMC has also urged the public to remain alert to the risk of further landslides and falling debris in the area as wet weather conditions continue.
