Sri Lanka Army personnel rescued 24 families affected by flooding in the Kotagala and Ginigathhena Blackwater areas and safely relocated them to secure locations on Sunday afternoon (03).

The flooding occurred after the Hatton Oya, which flows from Hatton towards Nawalapitiya, overflowed its banks, inundating a line of estate houses in the Ginigathhena Blackwater area.

The rescue operation was carried out by troops attached to the 56 Infantry Brigade Headquarters in Kotagala after reports indicated that several residents had become stranded due to rapidly rising floodwaters.

Families from the following areas were evacuated to safety:- Ginigathhena Blackwater Estate, Hatton Kotagala Commercial Estate, Loghill Estate, Mayfield Estate

The operation formed part of the Sri Lanka Army's emergency response efforts to assist communities affected by the prevailing adverse weather conditions and ensure the safe evacuation of vulnerable residents.
