The Attorney General has informed the Colombo High Court that an appeal will be filed against the recent ruling which held that charges under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) cannot be maintained against alleged underworld figure Nadun Chinthaka Wickramaratne, alias "Harak Kata", and four other accused over an alleged conspiracy to escape while in the custody of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
The case was taken up before Colombo High Court Judge Buddhika C. Ragala today, where State Counsel, appearing on behalf of the Attorney General, formally notified the court of the decision to challenge the judgment.
During the proceedings, the court also considered a bail application filed by the suspects. Judge Ragala ordered that the ruling on the bail application will be delivered on August 20.
Meanwhile, following the withdrawal of the PTA charges, the court directed prison authorities to transfer Harak Kata, who is currently being held on remand at the Tangalle Old Prison, to a suitable prison facility.
